Our History

The roots of COE began simply in 1970 when Lyman & Lois Coe purchased a catching frame as a way to save money on the harvest of their 10-acre prune ranch, and to make some supplemental income by using the machine to help their neighbors harvest prunes.

Within a few years the custom harvesting business had become successful enough that Lyman decided to focus on growing the harvesting business further. Shaking crops like pecans as far away as Texas to cherries in Oregon in addition to peaches & prunes locally.

In the off season Lyman would make improvements to the equipment that was purchased from other manufacturers to improve its reliability & performance.

In the mid-70s, a then new crop of pistachios started coming into production that would help the harvesting business grow and inspire Lyman to start manufacturing.

By the mid-80s, the demand for reliable good performing equipment & year round staff to service the harvest equipment had grown so much that Lyman decided to start manufacturing his own equipment. He also thought he may be able to sell a few machines to local customers.

The response to COEs first simple, affordable and well performing catching frames was so overwhelming that by the 1990s COE was outselling its long established competitor.

Growth continued through the 1990s along with the introduction of the thunder-head shaker heads and new models like the C7 wheel motor driven shaker and revolutionary L2 receiver. Coe relocated to a larger facility in Biggs in the early 1990s and sales continued to grow domestically as well as over seas.

By the late 90s, Lyman & Lois purchased a 45 acre prune ranch adjacent to highway 99 to build a larger factory to keep up with demand. New products like the S7 & M7 shakers for almonds, walnuts & pecans were introduced as well as establishing new dealers as far away as Michigan in addition to in California.

Coe is a second generation-run, family-owned and operated business, along with a talented group of managers, service technicians, office staff, machinists, assemblers and fabricators. The COE family & its employees are proud to be a part of an industry that helps to deliver innovative harvesting solutions on a global scale.
